Davenport, IA – Residents across the Quad Cities region are being warned of an elevated fire risk this weekend as unseasonably warm temperatures, gusty winds, and dry conditions combine to create hazardous fire weather.

According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities, winds could gust up to 30 mph from the south throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, increasing the potential for grass and brush fires to spread quickly out of control. The alert covers much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Scott, Rock Island, and Henry Counties.

The elevated fire threat is expected to last throughout the weekend, particularly during daylight hours. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and heed all local burn bans. Farmers are advised to use extra caution when operating harvesting and farm equipment in fields.

The Weather Service also reminded residents not to discard cigarettes outdoors and to keep firefighting tools nearby when working outside. Even small sparks could ignite fields or roadside grass under current conditions.

Officials emphasize that no rain is expected until early next week, prolonging the region’s dry spell and maintaining the fire risk through at least Monday, October 6, 2025.
