Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – A sharp blast of winter cold is setting the tone for the week across the Quad Cities, with dangerously low wind chills Monday followed by another round of snow that could complicate travel Tuesday night. While snowfall amounts remain uncertain, even light accumulation could create slick conditions during the evening and overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, temperatures remain well below normal after a frigid Monday, with wind chills dropping as low as 15 to 30 degrees below zero early today. Another system is expected to move through Tuesday night, bringing a 60 to 80 percent chance of snow across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Roadways including I-74, I-80, and U.S. 61 could become slippery late Tuesday, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces as temperatures fall into the teens. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and be cautious during the overnight commute. Gusty winds later this week could also worsen travel by lowering visibility and refreezing melted snow.

Cold conditions continue through midweek, with sharply colder air returning late in the week. Additional snow chances remain possible heading into the weekend, and residents are encouraged to monitor updates as conditions evolve.
