Davenport, IA – The northern lights could once again be visible across eastern Iowa and western Illinois tonight, though increasing high clouds may obscure the view in some areas.
According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities and the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, a strong G3–G4 geomagnetic storm continues to produce aurora sightings across much of the central U.S. Clear breaks early in the evening may allow residents in the Quad Cities region to catch another glimpse of the aurora borealis on the northern horizon.
Meteorologists expect cloud cover to gradually increase after sunset, with low temperatures dipping into the upper 20s to mid-30s overnight. Winds will remain light, turning southerly by Thursday as skies become mostly sunny and temperatures rebound into the mid-50s to mid-60s.
For the best chance to see the aurora, head outside between 8 p.m. and midnight, away from bright city lights, and look north. Even through thin clouds, residents may notice a faint green or red glow near the horizon.
