Davenport, IA – Residents across the Quad Cities region should prepare for a rollercoaster week of weather as fluctuating temperatures and two fast-moving systems bring changing road conditions to eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the first system arrives Wednesday night, bringing a 20–50% chance of precipitation. While snowfall totals are expected to remain light — generally a trace up to one inch — pockets of freezing rain or sleet could develop, especially southeast of the Quad Cities. This may create slick spots on major roadways including Interstate 80, Interstate 74, Interstate 280, U.S. 61, and U.S. 67.
Temperatures Wednesday will range from the upper 20s to mid-40s before dipping into the teens and 20s overnight, increasing the risk of icy patches during the Thursday morning commute.
Conditions improve Thursday and Friday as warmer air pushes into the region. Highs Friday could climb between 48 and 68 degrees with gusty northwest winds, helping melt any lingering snow or ice.
However, a second clipper system is expected Saturday, bringing another round of light snow with a 20–40% chance of accumulation. While amounts again look minor, untreated bridges, ramps, and overpasses along I-74 and I-80 could become slick.
Drivers are urged to slow down during overnight hours and early mornings when temperatures drop below freezing. Stay updated with the latest forecasts and allow extra travel time during periods of precipitation.
