Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – A fast-moving winter storm is expected to bring widespread light snow to the Quad Cities area this evening and overnight, with travel impacts likely by the Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, snow will develop early this evening and continue overnight. Snow totals are expected to be around 1 inch or less in eastern Iowa, with up to 2 inches possible on the Illinois side, including Rock Island, Moline, Davenport, and Bettendorf.

Forecasters warn that even light snow amounts could result in snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, particularly overnight and during the early commute hours. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads are most likely to become slick.

Snow is expected to taper off by around 6 a.m. Friday, but officials note another chance for scattered snow showers Friday afternoon and evening, which could add minor additional accumulation and renewed visibility issues.

The snow window runs roughly from 5 p.m. Thursday through early Friday morning, aligning with overnight travel and school and work commutes.

Drivers are urged to check road conditions before traveling, slow down, and leave extra following distance. Even brief snow showers may quickly impact visibility.

Residents should plan for winter driving conditions returning overnight, with improvements expected later Friday once snow exits the area.
