Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Light snow and increasing winds are expected across the Quad Cities region Sunday, followed by dangerous cold and blowing snow tonight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities.

In a social media update posted early Sunday, the National Weather Service said light snow will develop this afternoon, with minor accumulations expected mainly north of Interstate 80. Snowfall is forecast to range from a dusting to just over one inch, with light snow continuing into the early evening hours.

Forecasters warned that northwest winds gusting 30 to 40 mph tonight could lead to shallow blowing and drifting snow, especially in areas where snow cover is present. This may result in slippery roads and reduced visibility, particularly north of I-80.

In addition to the snow and wind, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect tonight into Monday morning. Low temperatures are expected to range from 5 below to 5 above zero, with wind chills dropping to 15 below in the south and as low as 30 below zero in northern areas. The coldest wind chills are expected overnight through early Monday morning.

The National Weather Service advised residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and bring pets indoors. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions, allow extra travel time, and secure loose outdoor items that could be blown by strong winds.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Monday afternoon as winds ease.
