Quad Cities, IA/IL – Gloomy holiday weather is expected to persist across the Quad Cities region through Christmas Day, with drizzle, light rain, and fog potentially impacting travel.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, drizzle and light rain will continue across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois today and into tonight. Southeast winds of 5 to 10 miles per hour are expected on Christmas Eve, with temperatures ranging from the upper 30s north to the low 50s south.
Fog is forecast to develop tonight as moisture lingers near the surface, reducing visibility in some areas. Forecasters say the fog is expected to last into the morning hours on Christmas Day, which could affect early holiday travel.
Overnight lows tonight will range from the mid-30s north to the low 40s south. On Christmas Day, conditions are expected to remain gloomy, with lingering morning fog and generally light east winds. High temperatures will range from around 40 degrees north to the low 50s south.
While no hazardous winter precipitation is expected, reduced visibility from fog could pose challenges for drivers, especially during the early morning commute on Christmas Day. Wet roadways from drizzle may also contribute to slower travel.
This forecast is especially relevant for holiday travelers, early-morning commuters, and those attending Christmas morning services or gatherings.
Residents are encouraged to use caution while driving, allow extra travel time, and monitor local forecasts for updates as conditions evolve.
