Davenport, IA – Strong to severe thunderstorms may develop across eastern Iowa and western Illinois Tuesday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the Storm Prediction Center has placed southern portions of the region under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather.

A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) remains in place for much of the surrounding area, including parts of the Quad Cities region.

Meteorologists say all severe weather hazards are possible, including damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and tornadoes if storms strengthen.

The most likely timing for severe storms is Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night, though forecasters note there is still uncertainty about the exact timing and placement of the strongest storms.

In addition to severe weather, heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, especially south of Interstate 80, where multiple rounds of storms could bring 1 to 3 inches of rain in some areas.

Officials recommend residents have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, including mobile alerts and NOAA Weather Radio.

Drivers and evening commuters should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, strong winds, and heavy rain if storms develop across the region.

The National Weather Service says forecast details will become clearer as the system approaches and additional updates are issued.

For residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, Tuesday could bring a period of impactful weather during the afternoon and evening hours.
