Quad Cities, IA/IL – Another round of late-summer heat is expected across Iowa and Illinois today, with heat indices climbing into the upper 90s and potentially reaching 100 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, high temperatures will range from 86 to 96 degrees, with the hottest conditions south of Interstate 80. Afternoon and evening storms remain possible, though coverage is limited to about 15–20 percent, mainly in southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.
Forecasters say Monday and Tuesday will continue the hot streak, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and isolated storm chances west of the Mississippi River. “Most of the area will remain dry and very warm into Tuesday,” officials said in Sunday morning’s update.
Relief is on the way later in the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday and Thursday, particularly along and east of the Mississippi River. Highs will gradually cool into the upper 70s and low 80s by Thursday, bringing a break from the recent heat.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers should also be aware of the potential for sudden downpours midweek that could create slick travel conditions.
