Davenport, Iowa – A dangerous stretch of extreme heat is blanketing eastern Iowa, western Illinois, and northeast Missouri through Monday evening, with heat indices climbing to 105°F and little relief overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. CDT Monday for cities including Davenport, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Rock Island, Freeport, and Burlington. Daytime highs in the upper 90s, combined with oppressive humidity, will drive heat index values above the danger threshold.

The prolonged nature of this heat wave is increasing the risk for heat-related illness, especially among vulnerable populations. Overnight lows in the mid to upper 70s—near record warmth—will offer little chance for recovery. Residents are urged to stay indoors, use air conditioning, and check on elderly neighbors.

Outdoor workers and those without cooling options should take extra precautions. Hydration, shaded breaks, and limiting strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours are critical.

This heat wave is expected to persist through at least Monday evening. Additional advisories may be issued if temperatures remain elevated.
