Quad Cities, Iowa–Illinois – Triple-digit heat index values will grip eastern Iowa and western Illinois starting Saturday afternoon, with a heat advisory now in effect through Monday evening for the entire region.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, temperatures combined with high humidity could push heat indices as high as 105°F from Saturday through Tuesday. The advisory impacts major cities including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, the Quad Cities, and Peoria. There is also a chance of thunderstorms late Sunday night, which could provide brief relief, though forecasters note low confidence in the storm potential.

Residents should avoid prolonged outdoor activity, especially during peak afternoon hours. Outdoor workers are advised to take frequent breaks, and families are urged to check on children, seniors, and anyone sensitive to heat. Local emergency agencies recommend staying hydrated and limiting time in the sun, particularly between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., when the heat will be most intense.

Conditions could change rapidly if storms do develop, but for now, dangerous heat remains the primary concern. Updates will be issued as needed through Monday evening.
