Davenport, IA – Residents across eastern Iowa and western Illinois should brace for bitter cold tonight, followed by potential accumulating snow late Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities.
Forecasters say wind chills between -5 and -15 degrees will settle in Thursday night into early Friday, with overnight lows ranging from -4°F to 6°F. The NWS cautions that exposed skin could become frostbitten in as little as 30 minutes, urging residents to bundle up, limit outdoor time, and dress in layers.
Temperatures will rebound slightly Friday, climbing into the upper 20s and low 30s, before the next winter system moves in Saturday night into early Sunday. Early projections suggest 2 inches or more of snow are possible across much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, with the highest likelihood around the Quad Cities and along I-80.
Forecasters note the track and intensity of the storm are still uncertain, but warn travelers to monitor updates closely, especially those with Saturday night or Sunday morning plans. The snow is expected to be dry and fluffy, but could still reduce visibility and create slick roads.
