Davenport, IA – A winter storm warning is now in effect for the Quad Cities region as a fast-moving system brings heavy snow and mixed precipitation tonight through early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the heaviest snowfall is expected north of I-80, where 5–8 inches may accumulate by sunrise. Farther south—particularly along and south of Highway 34—a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain could create a thin glaze of ice and hazardous road conditions.
Snow is forecast to begin between 7–9 p.m., with the heaviest bands continuing through early Sunday (around 3–5 a.m.) before tapering off by mid-morning. Travel may become treacherous overnight due to snow-covered and icy roads, especially on bridges and overpasses.
A Winter Weather Advisory covers areas south of the Quad Cities, including Macomb and Galesburg, where less than an inch of snow and a light ice glaze are possible. Meanwhile, areas near Cedar Rapids and Dubuque could see higher totals approaching 5–8 inches.
The NWS also cautions that subzero wind chills will follow Sunday night, adding to the winter hazards. Drivers are urged to check 511ia.org or gettingaroundillinois.com for road updates before traveling.
