DAVENPORT, Iowa – A crisp, bright start to the second weekend of October greets the Quad Cities, with dry fall air and rising temperatures promising an ideal stretch through the Columbus Day holiday. But the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities warns that breezy Sunday conditions may elevate fire risks in eastern Iowa, particularly near harvested fields along Highway 34.

According to the National Weather Service, mild afternoons and clear skies will dominate through Monday, making this a top weekend for outdoor plans, pumpkin patches, and leaf-viewing drives along the Mississippi River. However, the agency advises residents in southeast Iowa and west central Illinois to use caution with outdoor burning Sunday due to low humidity and gusty winds.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s both Sunday and Monday before easing slightly midweek. Cooler nights in the upper 40s to near 50 will keep the air comfortable for evening fall events and early morning jogs. By Tuesday, a few isolated showers could move in from the west, but widespread rain remains unlikely before midweek.

With sunny, dry weather continuing through Tuesday, local roadways such as I-80 and I-74 should remain clear for Columbus Day travel. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the calm, mild pattern before more typical late-October chill arrives later next week.
