Quad Cities, IA/IL – A touch of fall settles over eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois early this week, with chilly overnight lows and the potential for patchy frost before a late-week warmup.

According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities, temperatures tonight and Wednesday night could dip into the upper 30s and lower 40s, especially along the Highway 20 corridor, where patchy frost may form. Daytime highs are forecast to remain mild, mainly in the 60s to around 70 degrees through Thursday.

By Friday and into the weekend, a warming trend is expected to take hold. Forecasters say highs will climb well into the 70s and possibly the lower 80s, bringing a return to more seasonable comfort after the midweek chill.

Tuesday may start with light morning rain before clearing to sunshine in the afternoon. Conditions remain mostly sunny Wednesday and Thursday, with partly sunny skies expected by Friday.

Residents planning early morning commutes or outdoor activities along northern Iowa and Illinois should be aware of possible frost in low-lying areas. The weather service recommends protecting sensitive plants and monitoring local forecasts for any frost advisories.
