Davenport, Iowa – Localized thunderstorms are moving through the Quad Cities region this evening, bringing gusty winds, small hail, and reduced visibility to parts of southeast Iowa, northeast Missouri, and west central Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, isolated to scattered storms will continue tracking eastward at around 30 MPH, with activity decreasing after 10 p.m. Stronger cells may produce wind gusts up to 40 MPH, brief heavy downpours, isolated lightning, and pockets of small hail. The heaviest bands have already impacted areas near Monticello, Carthage, and Quincy, with potential for storms to reach east central Iowa, including the Keokuk area, after 7 p.m.
Motorists on U.S. Highway 61 and Illinois Route 96 should prepare for sudden visibility drops. Outdoor events or activities are encouraged to pause, and residents are urged to move indoors if thunder is heard.
While severe weather is not expected, the National Weather Service advises keeping a NOAA Weather Radio or mobile alerts active in case of any rapid developments. Additional showers may linger overnight, but widespread storm activity will begin tapering off later tonight.
