Quad Cities, Iowa/Illinois – Thunderstorms and dangerous heat are converging on the Quad Cities, where residents can expect muggy nights and the risk of strong to severe storms through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the region will see temperatures hovering near or above 90°F each day through the weekend. Storm chances will ramp up overnight Thursday into Friday, with some storms capable of producing heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and even hail. The greatest risks are tonight into Saturday morning, when isolated severe storms could impact travel and utilities across Scott, Rock Island, Clinton, and surrounding counties.

Meteorologists urge drivers to use caution on I-80 and I-74, where torrential rain and strong wind gusts could create hazardous conditions. Residents are advised to charge mobile devices, secure outdoor furniture, and review their severe weather safety plans. Air conditioning, fans, and hydration will be critical as the heat index climbs.

This early stretch of late-July heat is reminiscent of past Midwest summers and could strain local power grids. Local schools and community centers may offer cooling shelters if outages occur.

Thunderstorm and excessive heat advisories may be extended or upgraded. Check for updates through Monday night, as the risk of storms and extreme temperatures lingers across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
