Davenport, IA – Light snow showers and sub-freezing temperatures are set to impact eastern Iowa and western Illinois late Sunday into Monday morning, prompting potential slick road conditions. Residents near the I-74 corridor should prepare for travel disruptions during the early hours of Monday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, a period of light snow and flurries is expected late Sunday night, with accumulations under one inch likely. Areas west of Cedar Rapids, IA, to Keokuk, IA, and into northwest Illinois may experience slippery roads due to freezing temperatures. Drivers should exercise caution on bridges and overpasses, where icy spots are more likely to develop.
Monday will remain cold, with high temperatures peaking near 30°F and northwest winds of 5-10 mph. Wind chills early in the day could dip as low as 5°F, adding to the brisk conditions. Sunshine is expected later in the day, but temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing.
Looking ahead, Tuesday offers slightly warmer highs near 33°F, but Wednesday could see a brief reprieve with highs in the mid-40s. However, frigid conditions return Thursday, with highs around 24°F and overnight lows plummeting to 11°F.
Residents should stay updated on road conditions and prepare for fluctuating temperatures throughout the week. Ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and check forecasts before travel.
