Quad Cities, IA/IL – A late-day weather shift is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms and isolated large hail to areas along and south of Interstate 80 on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a warm front will push through the region Thursday afternoon into Thursday night, triggering occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather across southern Iowa and northwest Illinois, including the Quad Cities area.
The most likely timing for a few strong to severe storms is late Thursday evening through the overnight hours. Primary hazards include cloud-to-ground lightning and isolated large hail, especially in counties directly south of I-80 such as Washington, Henry, and Muscatine.
Storm chances are currently estimated between 50 and 80 percent. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated strong cells could impact travel or outdoor activities. Preparedness now can reduce risk later Thursday night.
