Pueblo, CO – Thunderstorms could develop quickly across southern Colorado today, bringing brief downpours and lightning before a shift to drier, fire-prone conditions by Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will form through the afternoon, especially along the mountains and adjacent plains. Cities including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Trinidad may see brief rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning, with temperatures generally ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s.
Travel along I-25 and Highway 50 could be impacted by sudden rain bursts and reduced visibility, particularly near higher terrain where storms are more likely to develop. While severe weather is not expected, lightning strikes and localized gusts may pose short-term hazards.
Conditions shift quickly by Wednesday as temperatures rebound into the 70s and 80s across the plains, including Pueblo and La Junta. Drier air and increasing winds will create elevated fire weather concerns, especially along the I-25 corridor and lower elevations.
Residents should remain alert for changing weather today and avoid activities that could spark fires later Wednesday. Additional fire weather alerts may be issued as conditions dry out midweek.
