Pueblo, Colorado – Much of southern Colorado will see one final round of scattered thunderstorms Friday before drier, hotter weather returns this weekend across the Plains, Valleys, and Mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, today will be the most active day for storm activity, with a 40% chance of storms across the Mountain Valleys and 50% in higher elevations. Gusty winds and brief downpours are possible, especially along the eastern slopes.
Saturday will bring decreased storm coverage, with most thunderstorms expected to develop closer to the eastern border. By Sunday and Monday, high pressure will build in, clearing skies and pushing high temperatures well into the 90s, with some areas nearing 100°F.
Residents in La Junta, Alamosa, and Colorado Springs should prepare for hot, dry afternoons over the weekend. With fire danger gradually increasing, officials advise limiting outdoor burning and staying hydrated during peak heat.
Storm activity will likely stay minimal through early next week, but isolated evening showers can’t be ruled out in higher terrain.
