Pueblo, CO – Damaging winds are sweeping across southern Colorado early Monday morning, with gusts up to 75 mph creating dangerous travel conditions and the potential for power line and tree damage, according to the US National Weather Service Pueblo.
A High Wind Warning remains in effect through 9 a.m. MDT for the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the southern I-25 corridor, including areas near Trinidad, Walsenburg, and La Veta Pass. Winds are expected to gradually weaken later this morning.
Forecasters warn that travel may be hazardous on north–south highways, particularly along I-25, where high-profile and lightweight vehicles could experience difficulty maintaining control.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel until winds subside, and stay alert for possible power outages due to downed lines.
By this afternoon, winds are expected to diminish, but cooler and breezy conditions will persist into Tuesday as fall weather settles back across southern Colorado.
