Pueblo, CO – A strong cold front sweeping across Colorado this weekend will bring a sharp drop in temperatures, widespread freezing conditions overnight, and an increased fire danger Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Forecasters say temperatures will fall rapidly Saturday night as the front moves through, producing the first widespread freeze of the season across the eastern plains. Lows are expected to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s, prompting a Freeze Warning from 10 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday. Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing.
Sunday will stay dry and sunny with highs in the 70s across the plains, 60s in the valleys, and 40s to 60s in the mountains. But by Monday, strong northerly winds behind the cold front will combine with drier air to create elevated fire weather conditions, especially across southeast Colorado.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Monday afternoon, with gusts up to 40–50 mph expected and relative humidity values dropping into the teens. The NWS warns that any fires could spread rapidly under these conditions.
Cooler air will persist into early next week before seasonal temperatures return midweek.
