Pueblo, CO – A Thornton man accused of sexually assaulting a child was arrested Thursday in Denver with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives said 29-year-old Austin Halderman was taken into custody without incident on a warrant for sexual assault on a child by pattern, sexual exploitation of a child, and aggravated incest. He has since been transported to the Pueblo County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began in August when a School Resource Officer at a District 70 elementary school received a tip about a possible sexual assault on a child. Detectives later determined Halderman had allegedly engaged in inappropriate relations with a child for at least three years. Investigators also processed evidence that contained child sexual abuse material.

Following the findings, Pueblo County detectives obtained an arrest warrant and coordinated with U.S. Marshals to locate Halderman, who was living in Thornton.

Sheriff David J. Lucero commended his deputies and detectives for their work. “Through the dedicated and thorough investigative work, they were able to obtain an arrest warrant and quickly get the suspect into custody,” Lucero said. He also thanked the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance.

Halderman is currently being held at the Pueblo County Jail pending further court proceedings.
