Pueblo County, CO – Authorities in Pueblo County have announced sentencing in a child abuse case involving a 7-year-old boy that began in 2024. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Ashtan Ashley, 34, and Ryson Ashley, 28, were sentenced after pleading guilty to child abuse—knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ashtan Ashley was sentenced to one year in jail and began serving her sentence on January 1, 2026. She is currently housed at the Pueblo County Jail. Ryson Ashley was sentenced to 60 days in jail on the same charge and completed his sentence in July 2025.

Officials say custody of the 7-year-old child has been transferred to his biological mother, who resides outside of the state.

In a joint statement, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office noted that prosecutors evaluated all possible charges under existing law but determined the evidence supported only a misdemeanor.

Authorities acknowledged that the outcome may raise community concerns and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing laws that strengthen protections for children.
