Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to erupt across eastern Colorado Sunday afternoon, bringing dangerous winds and large hail that could disrupt travel and outdoor plans. The strongest storms are forecast to roll off the mountains after 1 p.m. and intensify as they reach the far eastern plains by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the primary hazards include hail measuring 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 to 70 mph. Storms are expected to peak in strength around 5 p.m. as they track through Lamar, Springfield, Burlington, and surrounding towns.
Drivers along U.S. Highway 50 and I-70 may encounter reduced visibility, blowing debris, and hail-slick roads. Outdoor events across the plains face a high risk of disruption, and residents are urged to secure loose items and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Communities east of Pueblo, including La Junta and Eads, should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Power outages are possible if damaging winds take down lines.
Severe weather warnings remain in effect through Sunday night, with additional advisories possible if storms persist into the overnight hours.
