Pueblo, Colorado – Afternoon storms and sweltering heat will challenge southeast Colorado on Tuesday, with highs surging to 98°F in Las Animas and 95°F in Pueblo. Isolated but strong thunderstorms could spark wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as quarters, especially across the southeast Plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will be less widespread but could turn severe in spots, mainly east of I-25 and along Highway 50. The primary threats are damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning. Temperatures will soar into the upper 80s and mid-90s from Colorado Springs and Trinidad to Lamar and La Junta, with the hottest conditions near Ordway and Las Animas.
Residents in Otero, Bent, and Prowers counties should prepare for rapid weather changes. Drivers are urged to monitor conditions, as severe wind gusts and hail can quickly reduce visibility and damage vehicles. Charge mobile devices and have a safe shelter nearby if thunder rumbles.
This round of storms follows a stretch of dry, hot weather and marks one of the warmest days so far this summer. More isolated thunderstorms may pop up into the evening, with risks tapering off overnight. Additional weather advisories may be issued if new storms develop.
