PUEBLO, Colo. – Frost warnings are returning to southern Colorado as cold air sweeps across the Palmer Divide this weekend, threatening outdoor plants and early-morning travelers. Temperatures are expected to plummet near freezing by early Sunday, with some mountain valleys dipping into the upper 20s.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, widespread frost is likely Sunday morning and may return Monday as high pressure keeps skies clear and winds light. Motorists using U.S. 50 or I-25 should plan for early morning frost on windshields and slick spots in shaded areas. Homeowners are urged to cover sensitive plants and bring pets indoors before late Saturday evening.

While the afternoons stay bright and mild, cold nights will linger through Tuesday. Sunshine and dry conditions will dominate daytime hours across Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and the Wet Mountain Valley, offering great conditions for fall activities like pumpkin patches and leaf viewing. However, gardeners and farmers in Fremont, Custer, and Huerfano counties should brace for freezing conditions near dawn.

By midweek, a slight warm-up is expected, but another round of mountain snow could return late Wednesday above 10,000 feet. Light accumulations may occur in the Sangre de Cristo and La Garita ranges.
