Pueblo, Colo. – Thunderstorms will sweep across Colorado beginning Friday afternoon as a strong cold front drops temperatures by as much as 20 degrees in parts of the state. The system is expected to trigger heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for flash flooding through the weekend and into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, rain chances will climb above 80 percent for many Front Range and mountain communities by Saturday, including Colorado Springs, Salida, and Woodland Park. The storm risk is highest in the foothills and burn scar areas, where rapid runoff could quickly lead to dangerous flooding.
Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar will see temperatures fall from the upper 90s Friday to the mid-70s by Monday. Colorado Springs will drop into the 60s by Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms expected each day. Travel along Interstate 25 and U.S. 50 could be slowed by heavy downpours and ponding water, especially during the evening hours.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, monitor alerts, and prepare for potential power outages as storms continue. Additional warnings may be issued through Tuesday as the unsettled weather pattern lingers.
