Colorado’s southern plains are already dry and restless this morning, with wind tugging at road signs along I-25 and humidity dropping fast. The air feels sharp and brittle. By midday, conditions will turn critical for wildfire spread across Pueblo and surrounding counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. for Pueblo, Huerfano, Las Animas and portions of El Paso County. West winds increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Isolated gusts could approach 45 mph. Relative humidity may fall as low as 5 to 10 percent. Any spark could spread rapidly.

Highs reach near 72 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Avoid outdoor burning. Secure trailer chains. Postpone activities that create sparks. Fires will move erratically in gusty winds, especially along the I-25 corridor and open grasslands east of Pueblo.

Tonight, winds ease and temperatures drop to around 39 degrees. Wednesday stays breezy with highs near 70. A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon as gusts increase again.

By Wednesday night, a slight chance of rain showers develops after 2 a.m., with a brief rain-snow mix possible as temperatures fall near 31 degrees. While little accumulation is expected, slick patches could form before sunrise Thursday if moisture lingers. Flash freezing remains a concern this time of year.

Thursday turns sunny with highs near 62. Friday rebounds to the upper 60s, and Saturday stays mild in the mid-60s. The broader 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures into early next week, signaling gradual spring warmth across southern Colorado.
