PUEBLO, Colo. – Southern Colorado stays hot through midweek with daily mountain thunderstorms before a cold front sweeps in Friday, dropping temperatures and bringing a wetter weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, highs today will reach the upper 80s in Colorado Springs, 94 in Pueblo, and as high as 96 in La Junta. Scattered showers and storms will develop over the mountains each afternoon, with the strongest storms capable of producing lightning, brief downpours, and gusty winds.

Eastern plains communities such as Lamar, Springfield, and Las Animas will bake in the mid to upper 90s through Thursday, creating added stress for outdoor workers and livestock. Meanwhile, higher-elevation towns like Leadville and Woodland Park will stay cooler, hovering in the 70s with more consistent storm chances.

Travelers on I-25 near Trinidad, Walsenburg, and Monument Pass should be alert for sudden downpours and reduced visibility in the afternoons. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity in peak heat, and keep an eye on fast-changing storm conditions in the high country.

Relief arrives Friday as a cold front ushers in cooler highs in the 70s and 80s across much of the region, along with increased rain chances through the weekend. Additional advisories could follow as storm coverage expands.
