Colorado starts the morning under a gray sky and damp pavement. Temperatures sit near 38 degrees in Colorado Springs, with light showers fading across parts of the plains. A few slick spots linger on bridges, especially where earlier moisture met freezing air.

Skies gradually clear, and highs climb to 55 degrees later today. Sunshine returns Sunday with highs near 64. By Washington’s Birthday, temperatures push to 67 under partly sunny skies. It will feel mild, almost like early spring along the I-25 corridor.

But the bigger story builds with wind and fire danger. A Fire Weather Watch begins Monday morning and continues into Monday afternoon. Southwest winds increase to 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Relative humidity may drop as low as 11 percent.

Avoid outdoor burning. Secure loose items. Blowing dust could reduce visibility on open stretches of Highway 50 and I-25.

Monday night turns quieter and cooler, with lows near 35. Then Tuesday brings another shift. A chance of rain and snow develops by afternoon, with highs near 54. Gusty winds up to 40 mph continue. By Tuesday night, temperatures fall to 26 with lingering snow showers possible.

Even light snow can create slick travel if melting refreezes after dark. Flash freezing becomes a concern this time of year.

Midweek stays unsettled with additional snow shower chances Wednesday and Thursday. Highs fall back into the 40s before gradual improvement late week.

Looking ahead 6 to 10 days, broader warming may return across parts of the Plains and West, hinting at milder midweek weather beyond President’s Day week.
