Pueblo, Colorado – Southern Colorado is heating up fast, with temperatures surging into the mid-90s and the threat of afternoon storms adding a layer of danger to the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, above-normal temperatures will persist through early next week, with highs reaching 96°F in La Junta and 94°F in Pueblo by Friday. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms—some potentially strong—are expected each afternoon through Friday, especially along the I-25 corridor and across the plains.

Cities including Colorado Springs, Canon City, and Walsenburg could see temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s through Friday. Afternoon storms may bring gusty winds, lightning, and brief downpours, particularly in higher terrain areas and near the foothills.

Travelers are urged to monitor local radar and avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours, generally from 3 to 8 p.m. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and prepare for brief power outages if severe weather strikes.

A drier airmass is expected to move in over the weekend, bringing relief from storms but keeping temperatures warm.

⚠️ Weather alerts remain possible. Next update expected Friday morning.
