Pueblo, Colorado – Residents across southeastern Colorado should brace for dangerously high heat Thursday, with a Heat Advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and temperatures expected to surge above 105°F in several locations.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the advisory includes El Paso, eastern Fremont, Pueblo, Crowley, Otero, and Prowers counties. Afternoon highs in Pueblo, La Junta, and Las Animas are forecast to range from 103° to 107°, with heat index values even higher. Las Animas and Lamar could feel closer to 110°.
The intense heat poses a significant risk to anyone without air conditioning or working outdoors. NWS officials urge people to stay hydrated, wear loose, light-colored clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours. Authorities also remind residents never to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even briefly.
Power demand is expected to spike, and isolated mountain thunderstorms may briefly interrupt the heat, though most of the region will remain dry.
The advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Additional alerts are possible through the weekend as the heat lingers into early next week.
