Pueblo, Colo. – Colorado is in for a hot stretch through Thursday, with temperatures climbing into the mid-90s across the plains and only modest relief in the mountains. Sunshine will dominate much of the state, although isolated mountain showers could develop by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, highs on Wednesday will range from 83 to 94 degrees on the plains, around 78 to 80 degrees in the mountain valleys, and 58 to 76 degrees in the higher elevations. Thursday will bring even hotter conditions across eastern Colorado, with some spots pushing 95 degrees.
The heat will be most intense along I-25 and into the Arkansas Valley, where prolonged sunshine and dry air could raise fire weather concerns. Residents in Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated. Mountain communities such as Alamosa and Gunnison will see highs in the 70s and low 80s, while Leadville and other higher spots remain cooler in the 50s and 60s.
Travelers headed into the mountains should be prepared for quick shifts in weather, with a 10 percent chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to remain above seasonal averages into the weekend, with more hot days ahead for the plains.
