Pueblo, Colorado – Dangerous thunderstorms and soaring heat are expected across southern Colorado through Tuesday, bringing risks of small hail, gusty winds, and lightning, especially in the high country.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, typical summertime showers will increase over the mountains starting Monday, with peak activity expected Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. Gusts may reach 45 mph with localized heavy rainfall, prompting travel and safety concerns in higher elevations.
The eastern plains will bake under triple-digit heat, with highs between 90°F and 101°F Tuesday. Storm chances increase in the afternoons, especially near La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield. In the mountain valleys—including Alamosa and Gunnison—afternoon storms could bring brief downpours and cloud-to-ground lightning.
In the central mountains, including Monarch Pass and areas near Leadville, Monday and Tuesday could see up to 70% storm coverage. Travelers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and avoid high ridges during storms.
