Pueblo, CO — A powerful Arctic front is set to sweep through southern Colorado Friday night, bringing heavy snow and freezing temperatures. Travelers along I-25 and U.S. 50 are urged to prepare for hazardous road conditions and significant delays.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow is expected to begin after 11 p.m. Friday, persisting into Saturday evening. Total accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are forecast for El Paso, Pueblo, Crowley, and Otero counties. Wind chill values will drop to single digits, with a high of only 24 degrees expected on Saturday.

The first Arctic front will deliver widespread light and fluffy snow, while a second front, arriving Sunday night, could add additional accumulation. The advisory remains in effect from 5 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution on icy roads.

Looking ahead, conditions will improve slightly Sunday, with sunny skies but highs only reaching 17 degrees. Another chance of snow returns Sunday night into Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with temperatures falling as low as 0 degrees.

Prepare by checking road conditions via the state’s 511 system and packing emergency kits for vehicles. Avoid overnight travel unless necessary, as plummeting temperatures and blowing snow may cause dangerous visibility issues.
