Pueblo, CO — Strong and potentially damaging winds will continue across the Pueblo area tonight through early Saturday morning, prompting a High Wind Warning from the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service office in Pueblo, the warning remains in effect through 5 a.m. Saturday, with localized wind gusts reaching up to 70 miles per hour, especially in areas close to higher terrain and wind-prone corridors.
Forecasters say west winds of 35 to 45 mph are expected across much of southern Colorado, with stronger gusts developing overnight as conditions remain favorable for high winds. The strongest winds are anticipated late tonight into the early morning hours.
The hazardous winds may down trees and powerlines, potentially leading to localized power outages. Officials also warn that travel could be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as semis, RVs, and trailers. Blowing debris and sudden crosswinds may create dangerous driving conditions on highways and open roadways.
The wind threat extends beyond Pueblo into portions of El Paso, Fremont, Crowley, Otero, Bent, Las Animas, and Huerfano counties, where similar gusts are possible. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Saturday as winds weaken later in the morning.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects, including holiday decorations, trash cans, and patio furniture. Drivers are advised to use caution, reduce speed, and be prepared for sudden gusts, especially on east-west roadways.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay updated on the latest forecasts and warnings and to report any storm damage or hazardous conditions to local authorities.
