Pueblo, CO – Southern Colorado will see cooler temperatures and lighter winds today ahead of a more significant change in the weather pattern later this week. Forecasters say a storm system arriving Thursday and Friday could bring widespread mountain snowfall and a wetting rain across the plains.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Pueblo, highs today will range from the low 40s to the low 60s across the region. Mountain communities such as Leadville and Salida are expected to stay in the 40s and low 50s, while lower elevations including Pueblo, La Junta and Lamar will warm into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Winds will be noticeably lighter compared to earlier in the week, offering calmer travel conditions for Tuesday.

However, confidence is increasing for a more impactful weather system developing late Thursday into Friday. NWS meteorologists report that mountain snowfall is likely during that time frame, with precipitation chances reaching 75 to 85 percent across much of southern Colorado by Friday. Areas such as Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Trinidad could see a soaking rain, improving drought conditions but potentially creating slick roads in higher elevation passes.

The probability of precipitation spikes sharply heading into the weekend, with Thursday bringing the first wave of moisture and Friday showing the highest likelihood for widespread coverage. Temperatures will cool slightly as the system approaches, particularly in the mountains where readings may fall into the 30s and low 40s.

Residents planning travel into or near the mountains late this week are urged to monitor updated forecasts closely. Winter driving conditions may develop quickly, especially during periods of heavier snowfall.
