Pueblo, CO – Colorado is set for its warmest day of the week today, Friday, September 26, with forecasters warning of temperatures running 5 to 8 degrees above normal across much of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, middle and high clouds are expected through the day, which may provide some relief from the unseasonably warm afternoon. Highs are forecast to reach the 70s and 80s in many areas.
The weather pattern shifts later in the day, as showers and thunderstorms are predicted to return to the high country. Scattered storm coverage is possible across the San Juan Mountains, with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and high-based storm systems posing potential risks for outdoor recreation.
While most lower-elevation areas remain dry, mountain communities and travelers along high passes should be alert for rapidly changing conditions. The NWS noted that storms could build quickly, bringing localized hazards despite the overall warm and dry setup.
This late-September warm spell comes ahead of a cooler trend expected in the coming days.
