Pueblo, Colo. – Sunshine dominates the eastern Colorado plains Tuesday, but those headed into the mountains should prepare for a very different picture. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s across the lower elevations, while the high country faces scattered afternoon storms and cooler readings.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the plains will stay dry with highs between 80 and 89 degrees. Mountain valleys are expected to top out in the upper 70s under mostly sunny skies, but with a 10–20% chance of showers developing. In the higher elevations, a 40–50% chance of thunderstorms will bring gusty winds, lightning, and brief downpours by late afternoon.

Travelers along U.S. 50 and I-25 will find mostly dry roads east of the Front Range, but anyone heading into mountain passes should watch for sudden weather changes. Lightning remains the primary threat with storms, along with slick roads from brief rainfall.

Conditions should ease overnight, though mountain showers may linger in spots. Another round of isolated storms is possible midweek.
