Pueblo, CO – Residents across southeast Colorado are facing unseasonably hot and breezy weather today, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 90s in some areas and creating elevated fire conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Meteorologists say communities including Lamar, La Junta, and Las Animas may reach highs near 96–98°F this afternoon, well above seasonal norms. Pueblo and surrounding areas are expected to see highs around 90°F, while the foothills and mountains remain cooler in the 70s and 80s.

According to the National Weather Service, the hot, dry, and breezy conditions will support increased fire danger across the far southeast plains Friday. Winds are expected to strengthen into Saturday, bringing the potential for strong storms as a passing system moves across the Rockies.

The forecast calls for a shift to cooler and unsettled weather later in the weekend, with widespread showers possible through the middle of next week.

Officials urge residents in southeast Colorado to use caution with outdoor burning or equipment that could spark fires today.
