Pueblo, Colo. – Scattered thunderstorms will bring lightning, gusty winds, and the risk of small hail across southern Colorado Saturday afternoon and evening, creating potential travel delays and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will be most active over the mountains and I-25 corridor through tonight, with a couple of stronger cells expected Sunday afternoon across the eastern plains. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats.
Communities along the Arkansas Valley, including Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar, could see brief downpours and reduced visibility on highways. Mountain areas such as the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains may pick up heavier rainfall, raising the chance for localized flooding. Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying roads during downpours and secure outdoor items ahead of strong winds.
By Monday and Tuesday, storm chances remain mainly over the mountains and valleys, with hot and dry weather returning to Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and surrounding plains cities. Highs will climb back into the lower 90s by midweek. The NWS warns that heavier, more persistent rainfall may arrive by Wednesday along the Continental Divide, raising flash flood concerns in burn scar areas.
Showers may linger into late week, with additional advisories possible as rainfall totals increase.
