Pueblo, Colo. – Dangerous thunderstorms could rattle eastern Colorado on Tuesday as strong outflow winds and hail accompany another round of late-summer storms. The most severe impacts are expected across the far eastern plains, where winds could gust up to 60 mph and hail may reach an inch in diameter.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures will climb into the mid-80s to lower 90s across the southeast plains, with 70s in the valleys and 50s and 60s in the higher mountains. Storms are expected to develop over the mountains in the afternoon before pushing into adjacent plains, bringing frequent lightning and locally damaging winds.
Communities from Lamar to Springfield face the highest chance of severe weather Tuesday evening. Drivers along Highways 50 and 287 should prepare for sudden visibility drops in heavy rain and hail. Power outages are possible in rural counties if strong winds bring down tree limbs or power lines.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and move indoors at the first sign of lightning. Emergency managers warn that additional advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
Severe thunderstorm risks remain in place through Tuesday night, with calmer and cooler conditions expected by midweek.
