PUEBLO, Colo. – Southern Colorado will enjoy a crisp, calm Sunday as cooler air settles in behind Saturday’s breezy front, bringing relief from the gusty winds that swept through much of the region. Highs Sunday will linger in the 50s and 60s across the Arkansas Valley and I-25 corridor, with 40s in the high country.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the cooler pattern will persist into early next week before temperatures rebound by mid to late week. Highs will climb back into the 70s for Pueblo and La Junta by Wednesday, while Alamosa and the mountain valleys stay in the 60s. A return of late-week thunderstorms is expected across much of southern and eastern Colorado by Thursday and Friday.
The agency noted that while no widespread frost is anticipated, overnight lows will dip into the 30s and 40s in many mountain valleys Sunday and Monday mornings. Drivers on I-25 and U.S. 50 can expect dry roads but cooler morning commutes. Residents should keep jackets handy for early mornings and protect tender plants in higher elevations.
By the latter half of the week, warmer air and increasing moisture may lead to isolated afternoon storms and gusty outflows. Outdoor workers and event planners should monitor for lightning and brief heavy downpours late week.
