Mostly dry and mild conditions are expected across southern Colorado through the extended forecast, with only limited weather impacts for most communities.

According to the National Weather Service office in Pueblo, dry and seasonably mild weather will dominate much of the region, particularly across the eastern plains and lower elevations. Afternoon temperatures today and Thursday are forecast to range from the upper 40s to upper 50s, providing relatively favorable conditions for late January.

The main exception will be across the central mountains, where light snow is expected today into Thursday morning. Snowfall amounts are forecast to remain light, but brief slick spots may develop on higher-elevation roads, including routes near US-50, US-160, and mountain passes west of Pueblo and Colorado Springs. Travelers through these areas should remain alert for changing conditions.

By Thursday, breezy winds are expected to develop, particularly along the I-25 corridor from Pueblo north toward Colorado Springs. While damaging winds are not anticipated, gusty conditions may affect high-profile vehicles and could increase fire weather concerns in drier areas.

A slight cool-down is expected Friday, especially across the far eastern plains, as a weak system passes east of the region. Temperatures will dip modestly but are still expected to remain near seasonal levels. No significant precipitation is expected with this system for the plains.

Communities including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, La Junta, Lamar, Trinidad, and Walsenburg are expected to avoid major weather disruptions during this period. Travel along major corridors such as I-25, US-50, and US-287 should remain generally favorable outside of brief mountain snow showers.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service does not indicate any high-impact winter storms for southern Colorado in the near term. Residents and travelers are encouraged to monitor forecast updates, particularly if traveling through mountain areas where light snow may briefly affect road conditions.
