Pueblo, CO – Heavy snow is blanketing parts of southern Colorado this morning, with travel impacts expected to continue throughout the day along major corridors including I-25 and Highway 50, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Snow began early Wednesday morning north of Highway 50 and has been spreading southward, increasing in intensity through the morning hours. The heaviest snowfall is expected over the east-facing slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Range and the Wet Mountains, where totals could reach 8 to 14 inches by early Thursday. Lower elevations, including the Pueblo area and the I-25 corridor, may see 3 to 6 inches.

Forecasters say the window for heaviest snowfall will occur from late this morning through early afternoon, tapering from north to south late tonight into Thursday morning. Travel could become hazardous, especially in higher terrain and along exposed roadways where visibility may be sharply reduced.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the higher elevations, while surrounding areas remain under Winter Weather Advisories. Drivers are urged to plan for snow-covered roads, delays, and slick conditions. Those traveling through mountain passes should carry emergency supplies and check COTrip.org for the latest road updates.

Temperatures will remain cold, keeping snow accumulation efficient throughout the day. Winds will stay light to moderate, but any gusts could cause localized blowing snow and brief whiteout conditions.

Snow is expected to gradually diminish from north to south overnight, with clearing skies and frigid temperatures likely Thursday morning. Forecasters encourage residents to stay updated as the storm system continues to evolve.
