Pueblo, CO – Snow that began late Wednesday night over the Continental Divide is expected to continue spreading eastward today, bringing impactful winter weather to portions of southern Colorado. The National Weather Service in Pueblo reports that Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect until 5 AM Friday for the San Juans, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and Pikes Peak region, where the heaviest snowfall totals and most significant travel disruptions are expected.
According to forecasters, heavy snow will continue across high elevations today, with totals generally above 8,000 feet bringing difficult travel conditions, especially around Wolf Creek Pass and La Veta Pass. Snowfall amounts vary widely, with the greatest impacts concentrated along the higher terrain.
Meanwhile, rain is expected on the plains, though light snow accumulations on grassy surfaces may develop tonight into Friday morning across the Palmer Divide and Raton Mesa. Lower elevations such as Pueblo, Walsenburg, and Trinidad should mainly see rain, with minimal accumulation risk.
Motorists traveling through the mountains are urged to use caution, check chain laws, and stay updated on changing road conditions.
