Pueblo, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through early Monday morning for the Eastern San Juan Mountains, where several inches of snow combined with gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions. Snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts near the highest peaks, are forecast as moisture lifts into the mountains this evening and continues overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow will begin developing across the higher elevations late Sunday afternoon before intensifying overnight. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated from this evening into the early morning hours Monday, with lighter snow continuing as the system exits. Locally heavier bands may form along favored slopes and ridgelines.

West winds ranging from 20 to 45 mph will accompany the snowfall, creating areas of blowing and drifting snow. Visibility may be reduced significantly at times, especially across exposed passes including Wolf Creek Pass. Rapidly changing conditions are possible during heavier bursts of snow, making travel difficult or dangerous through early Monday.

Motorists planning to travel through the Eastern San Juans should monitor conditions closely, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time. Snow-packed roads, slick surfaces, and occasional whiteout conditions may occur overnight. The weather service recommends checking cotrip.org for live road updates before heading into the mountains.

Conditions will gradually improve through Monday as winds decrease and snow tapers off. However, early-morning travelers should prepare for lingering icy patches and reduced visibility in blowing snow. No significant additional accumulations are expected after mid-morning Monday.

Communities including South Fork, Pagosa Springs (higher elevations), and travelers along U.S. 160 into the mountains will experience the greatest impacts.
