Pueblo, CO — Snow is expected to move into the central mountains near Pueblo early Saturday morning, bringing accumulating snowfall and strong winds that could create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 20, for the central Colorado mountains, including areas west and southwest of Pueblo.

Forecasters say 2 to 5 inches of snow are expected during the advisory period. While snowfall totals may appear modest, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour could significantly reduce visibility due to blowing and drifting snow, especially on exposed mountain passes and higher-elevation roadways.

The National Weather Service warns that snow will begin moving into the mountains early Saturday morning, with the most impactful conditions developing through the late morning and afternoon hours. Slick roads, sudden whiteout conditions, and rapidly changing visibility are possible.

Travel may be particularly difficult on mountain highways and secondary roads, including routes frequently used by weekend travelers and commercial traffic. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and carry winter safety supplies if travel cannot be postponed.

The advisory impacts parts of Fremont, Custer, Chaffee, and surrounding central mountain areas, where winter conditions can intensify quickly under strong wind conditions. Lower elevations near Pueblo are expected to see limited snowfall but may still experience gusty winds and colder temperatures.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions before heading out. The National Weather Service advises checking weather.gov/pub and local transportation updates for the latest information.
